Luísa Mota is interested in archetype as a component of the collective unconscious. She explores, therefore, the symbolic system that defines common behaviour patterns. As such, the representation of the phenomena that articulates the individual and society constitutes the subject matter of her practice. With this in mind, she develops a series of works and characters that inhabit her performances and that are in-current to the socio-cultural needs of the places where she exhibits/produces her work.
Born in Porto in 1984, currently living in th UAE.
Luísa Mota has a degree in Fine Art and Critical Studies from Goldsmiths College and an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, both in London.
The artist has been exhibiting her work since 2007, in group and solo exhibitions and in events related to the performing arts, developing a series of works and recurring characters that inhabit her performances and site-specific installations. The artist makes no distinction between her sculptures and her documentation, which should be understood as a whole, anthropological records and artefacts.
Luísa Mota is represented by Galeria Nuno Centeno.
